METAL EMBOSSING DIE

Important factor in the manufacture of counter dies

The metal embossing die should be processed very carefully since it is (besides factors such as pressure strength and temperature in hot embossing processes), of course, decisive for the shaping of the counter die.

There are differences between an embossing stamp:

  • for blind embossing (cold embossing)
  • for relief-hot-foil embossing (relief engraving) in a single operation.

4 = Material to be embossed
5 = Counterpressure die

Metal embossing dies for blind (cold) embossing processes are metal blocks of 7 mm height, from which the embossing structures are worked out as a negative form.

Metal die for relief-hot-foil embossing (relief-hot-foil embossing) in a single operation

1 = Heated plate
2 = Metal embossing die
3 = Embossing foil
4 = Material to be embossed
5 = Counterpressure die

With metal embossing dies for relief-hot-foil embossing in a single operation, the structure is worked out as a negative form. However, the structure is subsequently detached along its contours, so that the plane outside the contours is considerably deeper than the embossing plane within the contours. When detaching the embossing structures, cutting edges along the contours are produced which have to be processed very carefully if a high quality metal embossing die is to be achieved: the cutting edges will have to be as sharp as possible.
A thoroughly processed metal embossing die is a decisive factor for the manufacture of an accurate counter die and thus of the high quality relief-hot-foil embossed product.
